(TFOR) Chapter 2: Royal Beginnings

As the moon and its stars have slightly overtaken the space of daylight, the warm gradient at sundown reminded Tane of his evening feast. Tane's preparation of the dinner is relatively smooth and consistent. With the ingredients and the techniques of basic cuisine learnt from his mother, he was able to assemble an astonishing single-plated meal. Its gorgeous smells were rich in toasted corn, butter and roasted beef with gravy on top as the main course, which will helpfully fulfill his empty growling stomach.

When he was about to grab the silverware, a rather inquisitive knock, contacted on the rusty wooden door a few times. Bud, bolted to the door and barked twice before coming back to sat and watched Tane like he's trying to communicate something.

Tane moaned according to the fact that he couldn't start on his hard-working dinner. A moment later, he confronted the door.

“Evening, good sir!” a stranger greeted willingly. “I'm one of The Leader's messengers and I'm here to inform you that The Leader requests your time for a little talk."

“The Leader!?” Tane exclaimed hesitantly.

"What? Why now? And why does he need a normal guy like me?"

The questions took up the space, kept just for only fresh curiosity, in his mind. His brain was already overflowing with foolish daydreams, collected from the past normal days he had.

"You will know soon, sir," he calmly said.

"As a member of the Royal Postal and Messaging Service, I can't tell you unauthorized information before an approval sir. It is my duty after all."

"It would be a wise decision to travel to the
Royal Pavilion tomorrow, sir. He would be waiting for his candidates to arrive early."

"Candidates? Commit to what? Never mind then, I obviously accept his request if he needs my help in this urgent matter. I can't believe that The Leader wanted me so bad! Thank you for telling. You can return now. It would surely be a hard time if you had to travel back later than this," Tane replied.

"It's my pleasure sir. Thank you for your time," the messenger said without delay.

The man then slammed the door immediately. Tane heard the tiredness in his enervating sprint after the end of the chat. It made him wonder why he would come so fast as an ostrich to only tell a few sentences without bothering to leave some sort of letter on his doorstep. Tane turned back to the dining room, only to find the same meal get cold and lightly distasteful, due to the fact that Bud had a pleasure, licking the entire face off the professionally seasoned beef. Tane somehow dealt with it anyways, believing that dog-licked food is gross, but still better than no food at all. After that, he then reached the shower and began to clean his body up. The shower concluded and it then directed to the sleeping phase, Tane's favorite.

The white and yellow glow of the sun rose up, calling the chickens to awake, only to do their clucks. The villagers woke up to continue their daily jobs, after the unpleasant sound of the roosters' annoyingly interrupting their sleep.

Tane has woken up and already completed his daily routine. He exited the shack, commanded Bud to stay in his little dog shed and jogged as swiftly as he could to enter the domain of the Royal Pavilion.

“What could he desperately want from me?”, he wondered.
