(TFOR) Chapter 11: Unwanted Taking

“What’s your name again young man?”

“It’s Tane, sir, but please don’t call me some Spanish term, it makes me nervous every time.” Tane recalled.

Yes. The pointless name that people gave him made him feel ashamed. Its logic and origin never explained itself. Tane had a pulp of mucus, stuck to the back of his throat. He excused himself.

“Tane it is, Let’s gather the test takers first. It won’t be too hard for you to come across what I’m about to send you through. I believe in your talents. Emma will also believe in you. She did well on her first Combat Exam and you won’t be different. I guess, the town could repair the damages in a matter of minutes, you shouldn’t care about it for now”, The Leader said.

“Combat Exam?!” Tane exclaimed.

“Unfortunately, you can’t cancel this now. It was a lifelong contract that Eugene agreed on, to test your abilities and to know what you really specialize in. The combination of the predominant fiery powers of your father, the godly ocean whispering expertise of your mother, and your confidence from the gloriousness of the ancestral ring, surely you couldn’t fail this.”

The Leader pulled up an old scroll from Mandrew’s useful bag. He then, untied the decayed piece of note that looks like it has been through an overcharged blender. It was a real formally written and approved contract signed by his dad’s unreadable handwriting. The title read:

EL CONTRATO: COMBAT AND ARCHERY PRE-EXAMINATION ASSIGNMENT

Tane was extremely bored of the titles and names which passed across his eyesight every now and then. He just wouldn’t want to keep them all inside his messy storage system under the skull. Meanwhile, the uncontrollable blood hose was stopped, thanks to some of Leader’s healing mages whom he requested earlier. They came quietly and started patching up the little hole, while Tane was about to refuse the contract of the Leader’s.

“Ah, forget it. If you won’t agree, it’s possible that you will get dragged into Civilian Mage Court someday later, this is truly serious. Well, Swordbound? Where are they? It’s already late.”

“They’re here, sir”, the commander answered.
